Responding to the “last mile” challenge

E-micromobility acts as a mobility ‘glue’ by efficiently filling first and last mile gaps in public transport networks, without users raising a sweat.

As a collaboration between NTRO (National Transport Research Organisation), based in Fishermans Bend, and microFleet, a Melbourne-based clean technology start-up, this project will trial shared e-micromobility fleets, smart charging stations and safer riding routes to and within the precinct.

Based at NTRO’s offices in Fishermans Bend, a small fleet of e-scooters and e-bikes will be made available to NTRO staff offering a solution to the “last mile” travel from Southern Cross Station and trips throughout the day in the precinct.

The e-micromobility fleet will be powered by microFleet’s OneDock system, the first truly universal charging stations for light electric vehicles, with smartphone app and fleet management software.

Using the OneDock system, NTRO will gather and analyse the data from the trial to gain a deeper understanding about e-micromobility as an option to support more sustainable, efficient and enjoyable journeys to, from and within Fishermans Bend.

The trial also aims to provide a ‘proof of concept’ and valuable learnings about how to optimise shared and private e-micromobility fleets and infrastructure, uncover operational challenges and the measurable benefits of public mobility to other businesses and the general public in Fishermans Bend. It will provide a valuable use-case for microFleet as they scale up deployment of the innovative OneDock system.

microFleet relishes the opportunity to work with NTRO and FB IDEAs to demonstrate our unique universal e-micromobility platform.
