Fishermans Bend Plastic Waste Finds New Purpose in Urban Agriculture

FB IDEAs are supporting not-for-profit design practice, OFFICE, to explore the feasibility of upcycling plastic waste from Fishermans Bend and turning them into planter boxes for urban agriculture for a project called Green Box.

Green Box is an initiative developed by OFFICE to provide sustainable urban infrastructure in the form of community planters, with all products crafted, manufactured, and assembled in Victoria.

The aim is to source plastic waste from Fishermans Bend that can be turned into planter boxes to be used within the Fishermans Bend, to provide community groups with urban infrastructure to support their existing programs.

What type of plastic are they looking for:
High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE): Plastic pallets, pallet slip sheets, wheelie bins, unused packaging products. If you’re not sure what you have, get in touch and they can let you know if it's suitable.

What plastic won’t work:
Products that aren’t HDPE or have been used or been in contact with chemicals and require substantial cleaning.

What would your involvement look like:
Your involvement can vary from a one off-donation of plastic waste, to a formal partnership in developing a circular economy in alignment with Green Box.

Do you have to pay to participate:
No. As this is a prototype, they will collect your waste free of charge.

If you have any questions, or would like to be involved please contact Office at hello@office.org.au or  +61 493 262 301.
