The Plus Prototype

A physical demonstration of a future net-zero building  code

The built environment industry needs an authentic net zero building code: zero emissions in construction, zero emissions in operations. Whilst it’s now possible to deliver profitable projects with a positive impact on the environment, there are far too few examples. Key stakeholders are concerned that it will be too expensive or not meet codes / regulations or not perform suitably.

It’s time to demonstrate it is possible. Zero impact. Zero operational costs. On budget.

The Plus Prototype is a plus energy, zero carbon construction prototype to demonstrate one floor of a typical office, one floor of a typical apartment and a typical rooftop garden, to show what is possible.

The project is the sum total of a range of cost effective, pragmatic, practical initiatives that on their own are not all that innovative, but combined, create something that is extremely innovative and has never been done before. It will demonstrate actual initiatives that are scalable and replicable. It aims to work closely with industry to leverage collective knowledge and research for the greater goal of accelerating Melbourne's position towards a net-zero building code.

The prototype will be a tool to help educate developers, builders and the broader public as an ongoing sustainability workshop. It's also an opportunity to connect People with Place; to build a community atmosphere through sustainability and to connect people with ecology.

In collaboration with Finding Infinity and Building 4.0 CRC, we are looking for a place and partners to bring this vision to life in Fishermans Bend. To show what’s possible, not just for the future of Fishermans Bend, but for the industry at large.

This project is the sum total of a range of cost effective, pragmatic and practical initiatives that on their own are not all that innovative. Combined however, it will create something that has never been done before. We’re not just on a mission to demonstrate it’s possible, we will show that it’s commercially viable and feels better than any building that currently exists in Melbourne.
