Collaboration continues to grow as UK’s Cranfield University offer short courses in Fishermans Bend at NTRO
It’s great to see collaborations and international connections continuing to grow in Fishermans Bend.
Last month while attending the VicWorx project industry engagement session at NTRO (National Transport Research Organisation), I met Paul Fox who is leading the expansion of UK-based Cranfield University into the Asia Pacific market. He shared that in April they will deliver the first short course on the ground in Australia from Cranfield’s highly respected and sought-after safety training programs at NTRO’s facilities on Turner Street - right in the heart of Fishermans Bend.
Cranfield University is well known across the aviation industry. The original Cranfield Aircraft Accident Investigation Course was established in 1977 in collaboration with what is now the UK Government’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch. There is a substantial Cranfield alumni community in Australia and no doubt many who are now working in Fishermans Bend.
Cranfield’s first course to be held in Australia will be the highly regarded 5-day Aviation Safety Investigation Course, designed for those working within the safety function of airlines, airports, ground handling providers, manufacturers, regulators, air navigation service providers or professional associations and unions. The course is built around an investigation simulation and will provide both the theoretical knowledge, and the practical skills required in conducting safety investigations. The course will be delivered face-to-face in Fishermans Bend from 31 March to 4 April 2025, immediately after the Avalon Australian International Airshow.
“Having access to Cranfield University’s almost 50 years’ of experience in aircraft accident investigation in Australia, will make a huge difference to the aviation safety and accident investigation capabilities in the region, and will allow many more industry professionals to access this world leading training.”
Cranfield have plans to expand their offer in Australia, including safety and accident investigation programs for the marine, rail and road transport sectors, and are keen to explore future collaboration with NTRO and others in Fishermans Bend.
