Pioneering the Future: FB IDEAs Drives Progress with New Key Projects

FB IDEAs is excited to introduce the first wave of projects in our commitment to foster innovation, support economic growth, and promote social impact in Fishermans Bend. Each project spans multiple sectors and stages of development, and embodies our core values and strategic goals, contributing to a vibrant, forward-thinking community.

Here’s a sample of the exciting activities currently in development:

Soon we will be officially launching FB IDEAs Incubator and Innovation Hub. Located within walking distance of the future Fishermans Bend Innovation Precinct, this hub is a melting pot of ideas, industry connections, and emerging businesses. Here  we'll be expanding our focus on nurturing start-ups and scale-ups in the advanced manufacturing, engineering, and design sectors. If you are part of an emerging business, innovative project or community group, get in touch about how we can support you with affordable access to a hotdesk, meeting room, or small team space as your starting point in Fishermans Bend.

FB IDEAs is working with Space Tank Studios to develop Start-up Factory. While still in the development phase, our shared goal is to build a manufacturing based incubator in Fishermans Bend. When fully up and running Start-up Factory will foster ideation, prototyping, and commercialisation of physical products and technologies, aligning with our goal to lower barriers to entry and support short-to-medium term opportunities through affordable space and resources.

In partnership with Quokka Quantum: FB IDEAs is supporting quantum literacy and hosting the International Quantum Game Jam, this project puts cutting-edge technology in the hands of the community. It highlights our dedication to nurturing new, diverse innovators and disruptors and plants early seeds towards developing Fishermans Bend as a vital hub for the emerging Quantum computing industry

As a key part of our bigger vision to restore and revitalise the ecology and habitat of Fishermans Bend we are investing in expanding a network of Remix Raingardens across the precinct. Building on a successful pilot, this project uses stormwater run-off to support urban ecology and enhance biodiversity.

As part of the same broader strategy, More-than-human Urban Design explores beyond human-centred approaches in architecture and urban design, focusing on biodiversity repair and regeneration. An embodiment of our philosophy of learning by doing and promoting innovative urban solutions.

The Plus Prototype is an ambitious plus energy, zero-carbon construction prototype and a tangible example of a future net-zero building code, highlighting our commitment to experimenting with design and the built environment to showcase what’s possible for sustainable urban living. FB IDEAs have partnered with Finding Infinity to explore opportunities to bring this showcase project to Fishermans Bend.

In collaboration with Agency Projects, a First Nation’s owned and led cultural organisation, we are developing UNTOLD: This series of Indigenous-led gatherings and conversations celebrate art, design, innovation, culture, and Country, underscoring our commitment to diversity and inclusion, and bringing together a variety of voices and perspectives in Fishermans Bend.

Recognising the growing need for flexible, sustainable transport solutions FB IDEAs is partnering with NTRO and microFleet on a new e-Micromobility trial. This trial introduces supports a small fleet of e-micromobility solutions such as electric bikes and scooters and invests in the infrastructure to support them, supporting our goal of facilitating more sustainable and efficient transport options within Fishermans Bend.

Last but not least (for now), FB IDEAs is a proud partner in the City of Melbourne’s Fishermans Bend Digital Innovation Challenge: This open competition encourages bold, ground-breaking ideas to be piloted in Fishermans Bend, embodying our dedication to fostering a collaborative culture and supporting sustainable urban development. FB IDEAs will be actively working the winner to secure sites, solve problems and build the networks and infrastructure required to deliver these innovative ideas.

For FB IDEAs, this first wave of project announcements is only the beginning. We continue to seek new initiatives through our Expression of Interest (EoI) process. This is just a snapshot of the exciting work happening in Fishermans Bend, with more projects in the pipeline. If you have a project you’d like to discuss, please visit our Get Involved page for more information on our Project Development Process and Assessment Criteria. When you’re ready, submit your project proposal here.

Stay tuned for regular updates as we add more projects to our portfolio!
