This is just the beginning of an exciting year for FB IDEAs, reinforcing Fishermans Bend as a place for experimentation, innovation, and sustainability. Through strategic partnerships, community engagement, and industry collaboration, FB IDEAs continues to drive forward-thinking projects that shape the future of urban development and community building in the precinct.

Cleantech Showcase Event

In April 2025, Fishermans Bend will host the Victoria Cleantech Cluster’s annual Cleantech Showcase. This event will bring together cleantech innovators, supporters and investors, further establishing Fishermans Bend as a centre for cleantech innovation and collaboration.

Fishermans Bend Circular Design Cluster

The Fishermans Bend Circular Design Cluster is transforming an empty warehouse into a dynamic hub for sustainable design experimentation. Through an Innovators in Residence program and public events, this initiative highlights how Fishermans Bend can lead in environmental innovation, liveability, and creative industry collaboration.

Creative Engineering Industry Collaboration

Bridging the gap between creative and engineering industries, this project is a collaboration between Pelican Studios and Siemens Mobility. The partnership will use Pelican Studios’ Mira Solar Flower public art project as a case study to demonstrate how creativity and engineering can work together.

VICWORX

This initiative aims to support Victoria’s defence and advanced manufacturing sector by fostering collaboration between SMEs, research institutions, and strategic partners in Fishermans Bend.

[RE]Maker Project

Led by Melbourne School of Design, at The University of Melbourne, this project aims to advance the concept of material circularity in architecture by prototyping design solutions that upcycle surplus wetsuit material and waste timber to create temporary fitouts and interior activations for the Fishermans Bend Circular Design Cluster.

Novel Aquatic Habitats

Using Fishermans Bend as a case study, this project explores new ways to support aquatic biodiversity in highly urbanised waterways by reimagining how design can create new ecological relationships and improve biodiversity in modified environments like the lower Birrarung (Yarra River).

Circular Threads

In response to Australia’s textile waste crisis, After will set up a micro-sorting facility and “Upcycling Showroom” and work with designers and innovators to develop new pathways to divert waste into upcycling initiatives or to be recycled into new yarn.

Leftovers

A collaboration between Lousy Ink and Dodgy Paper, Leftovers is a project with local artists to inspire others to rethink waste by showing how art and sustainability can intersect to make a positive impact.

Cleantech PowerOn Incubator

Based at the FB IDEAs Hub, the Victorian CleanTech Cluster (VCC) is delivering Victoria’s first dedicated clean technology incubator. The program will support startups and scaleups in developing and commercialising new cleantech products and services from Fishermans Bend.

No Bull Cause

By fixing, dyeing, printing, and rebranding garments, No Bull Cause gives discarded clothing a second life. In collaboration with After, they will upcycle garments onsite, host pop-up retail events, and run workshops raising awareness about fashion waste.

Precious Plastic Melbourne

Precious Plastic Melbourne is redefining waste by turning plastic into a valuable resource. As Innovators in Residence at the Fishermans Bend Circular Design Cluster, they will showcase their equipment and invite the public to create unique items from recycled plastic.
